Released in January 2020, 1v1.LOL is a third-person shooter built around one idea: in a modern shooter, construction is a weapon. You carry an assault rifle, a shotgun and a sniper, plus an axe for tearing down whatever your opponent throws up, and four building pieces - wall, ramp, floor and roof - sit on your keys ready to be placed the instant you need cover.

That makes every duel two fights at once. One is aim, the other is a race for high ground, and the player who wins the second one usually wins the first. There are eleven characters to unlock from boxes and the shop, but none of them change how you play - the whole game is in your hands and your keyboard.

How to Play 1v1.LOL

Controls

• WASD - move, Space - jump, Shift - crouch
• Left mouse button - shoot, and place a piece while you are in build mode
• Z, X, C, V (or Y) - pick the wall, ramp, floor or roof
• F, 1, 2 - switch weapons; R - reload, or rotate a ramp before you place it
• G - put a door in a piece you have built, E - open a door

Game modes

• 1v1 - the duel the game is named after, and the fastest way to improve.
• Box 2v2 - two against two inside a closed box, so every fight is point blank.
• BR Duos - a small two-against-two battle royale with a shrinking play area.
• JustBuild - building practice with nobody shooting at you.
• Aim Trainer - targets only, no building.
• Party - a private room you can share with friends.

Tips to Win More Duels

• Wall first, then ramp. A wall buys you the second you need; the ramp behind it buys you the height. Doing it the other way round gets you shot on the way up.
• Take the high ground and keep it. Shooting down is easier than shooting up, and your opponent has to expose themselves to climb.
• Break their build, not their body. The axe on an enemy wall is often worth more than another burst of rifle fire - once their cover is gone they have to rebuild instead of aim.
• Match the weapon to the range. Shotgun the moment you are in someone's box, rifle at mid range, sniper only when you already have cover to reload behind.
• Learn the keys in JustBuild. Wall, ramp, floor and roof have to be muscle memory. If you are still looking for the key, the duel is already lost.
• Reload after the fight, not during it. Most losses happen in the two seconds a player spends reloading in the open.
