What Is Basketball Legends?

Basketball Legends is a browser sports game built around one-on-one and two-on-two matches with exaggerated versions of famous playing styles. Some characters live behind the arc, others only want to dunk, and because the roster stats differ the match-up matters as much as your reflexes. Each hoop scored, steal made and shot blocked fills a super meter, and the shot it buys cannot be blocked at all.

The version on this page is the 2020 HTML5 build, so it runs natively in the browser with no Flash player, no plugin and no download - the old Flash release stopped working years ago, which is why half the copies still floating around the web are dead links.

How to Play Basketball Legends

Controls

• Player 1 - A / D move, W jump, S pump fake or block, B shoot and steal, V super shot
• Player 2 - arrow keys to move and jump, Down arrow to pump or block, L to shoot and steal, K for the super shot
• Both sets are live at the same time, so nothing needs configuring before a friend sits down next to you.

Modes

• 1 Player - quick matches against the CPU, the fastest way to learn a character.
• 2 Player - two people, one keyboard, no lobby or room code. This is what the game is for.
• Tournament - a bracket of CPU opponents that gets harder every round.

Tips to Win More Matches

• Pump fake before you shoot. Tapping the pump key makes a jumping defender commit early, and a defender in the air cannot contest anything.
• Do not waste the super on an open layup. A super shot is worth the same from the corner as from under the basket, so cash it when you are covered or deep, never when you were going to score anyway.
• Steal on the dribble, not the shot. Reaching in while your opponent is rising leaves you grounded and out of the play for the rebound.
• Pick a character that fits how you play. A shooter who cannot finish inside is unplayable if you like driving the lane - the roster differences are real, not cosmetic.
• Watch the meter, both of them. Knowing your opponent is one basket away from a super changes whether you should contest or drop back.
