Because a shape's final form depends on the order operations are applied in, working backward from the target shape to figure out the last transformation needed tends to reveal a level's solution faster than experimenting forward from the starting polygon. The minimalist visuals are deliberate, nothing on screen is decorative, so any shape or line worth noticing is usually relevant to solving the puzzle in front of you.
