Because special moves recharge on a meter rather than being freely available, saving one for a moment it can actually decide a play, breaking a tie late in a match, punishing an overcommitted opponent, tends to matter more than using it the instant it's ready. Matching your character choice to your own playstyle, aggressive scoring versus patient counterattacks, usually outperforms picking whichever character looks flashiest. Football Bros runs a similar fast-paced arcade sports format with team play instead of 1v1 duels.
