Block Sandbox is a pixel-art playground with no goal except the one you invent. Pick a character, drop them onto the grid, hand them a weapon and some armour, build a few walls, then press play and see what happens.

What Is Block Sandbox?

Block Sandbox is a physics sandbox from WeLoPlay drawn in the chunky blocky style of classic mining games. On the right is a catalogue split into tabs - characters, weapons, armour and building blocks - and on the left is an empty grid where everything you pick up can be placed, moved and wrecked.

The characters include a familiar-looking blocky hero, a skeleton, a zombie and more, and the weapon tab runs from pistols and submachine guns to rifles, rocket launchers and grenades. Put two armed characters in the same space and switch on battle mode, and the sandbox turns into a scrappy pixel war.

How to Play Block Sandbox

Controls

• Left click an item in the catalogue, then click the grid - place it
• Arrow tool - grab and move anything already in the sandbox
• Eraser - remove objects; Snowflake - freeze them; Flame - set them on fire
• Crossed swords - start the battle; Pause - stop time
• Slider - zoom the view in and out

The short tutorial at the start shows the basics: place a character, open the weapon tab and drop a gun next to them so they pick it up. After that there are no rules - build an arena, set up a siege, or just see how many things one rocket can knock over.

Building Your Own Scenarios

• Gear matters. An armoured character with a rifle behaves very differently from an unarmed one, so kit out each side before a fight.
• Blocks make the stage. Walls, towers and bunkers change how a battle plays out and give characters something to hide behind.
• Tools are the special effects. Freeze a charging zombie mid-step, torch a wooden fort or erase the floor out from under someone.
• Everything reacts. Ragdoll physics mean characters stumble, fall and topple when hit, which is half the fun.

Ideas to Try

• Zombie siege. Build a small fort, place two armed heroes inside and surround it with zombies.
• Weapon test range. Line up characters in armour and see which gun gets through fastest.
• Frozen statues. Freeze a whole battle halfway through, rearrange it and let it play on.
• Demolition day. Stack a tall tower of blocks and bring it down with a single explosive.
• Team battle. Split the grid in two, give each side a different loadout and press the swords.
