OMORI

OMORI runs two worlds in parallel rather than treating one as a flashback to the other, a colorful, nostalgic dreamscape and a much darker reality bleed into each other constantly, and the game trusts you to notice how details from one keep resurfacing, warped, in the other.

Combat leans on an emotion system rather than pure numbers, characters can be happy, sad, or angry, and each state creates strengths and vulnerabilities that shift the "correct" strategy fight to fight rather than sticking to one dominant attack. Because so much of the story is told through what you choose to investigate rather than what's forced on you, engaging with optional dialogue and side areas in the dream world tends to reframe events in the real one later. Deltarune shares a similar blend of whimsical presentation and unexpectedly heavy narrative weight.
