Bacon Survivor hands a pig in sunglasses a submachine gun and drops it into an arena that fills up with slimes, ghosts and walking pumpkins faster than you can count them. You never press fire - the gun does that for you - so the whole game is about where you stand, what you collect and which upgrade you take next.

What Is Bacon Survivor?

Bacon Survivor is a bite-sized survivor-style action game from SnoutUp, the studio behind the Bacon May Die brawlers. It borrows the formula that made the genre explode: you only steer, your weapon aims and shoots automatically, and every kill drops glowing blue stars that fill an experience bar and trigger a level-up choice.

Waves arrive back to back, each one thicker than the last, and new enemy types keep joining the crowd. Supply crates with a hand icon sit around the map and swap your current gun for something different, gold coins pay for new outfits, and there are two arenas to pick from - a sun-baked Desert and a gloomier Dungeon full of bats and red blobs.

How to Play Bacon Survivor

Controls

• WASD or Arrow keys - run around the arena
• Shooting - fully automatic; the pig fires at whatever is closest
• Mouse / tap - choose level-up upgrades and menu options
• Second player - join from the title screen and share the keyboard

A run starts with a full heart and an empty map. Keep moving, sweep up the stars that fall from every monster and take an upgrade each time the bar at the side of the screen tops out. The run ends when the heart counter hits zero, and the kill counter at the top is the number to beat next time.

Guns, Crates and Co-op

• Crates change your weapon. Walking into a marked crate swaps the gun in your hands, so a slow pistol can turn into something that shreds a whole wave.
• Stars are experience, coins are cash. Stars power your level-ups during the run; coins stay with you and unlock new looks in the wardrobe.
• Two maps, different pressure. The Desert is open and forgiving, the Dungeon throws flying enemies at you that ignore the paths you are used to.
• Local two-player. A friend can jump in on the same screen, which doubles the firepower and turns a solo panic into a team sweep.

Tips to Last Longer

• Circle, do not stop. Running a wide loop around the edge of the horde keeps enemies bunched up behind you, right in your line of fire.
• Collect stars between waves. The short calm after a wave is the safest moment to vacuum up everything left on the floor.
• Favour fire rate early. Faster shooting clears the small fry that would otherwise surround you, and that buys time for everything else.
• Grab crates on the way past. Detouring deep into a crowd for a weapon swap is rarely worth the hit points.
• Watch the flanks in the Dungeon. Bats come in over walls, so leave yourself an escape lane instead of backing into a corner.
